Idris Elba thought Prince Harry was "joking" when he offered him the gig of DJing at the royal wedding last May.
The Hobbs & Shaw actor was the wedding DJ at Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex's, star-studded evening reception at Frogmore House, Windsor. And in an interview recorded for Wednesday's edition of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he shared that he was taken by surprise when Harry asked him to take to the decks at his nuptials.
"So Harry and I have hung out a couple of times through his dad's [Prince Charles] charity – The Prince's Trust – which helped me out when I was a young actor," he explained.
"Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJed and he was like, 'What are you doing on (May 19)?' I told him nothing and then he asked if I would DJ at his wedding... I was like, is this a joke?"
Elba has run his DJ career alongside building his Hollywood portfolio, DJing under the name Big Driis and Big Driis the Londoner. He has had several residencies in Ibiza and is playing at Coachella in April.
At the wedding's evening reception, he reportedly got the duchess on her feet to dance with her girlfriends to Never Too Much by Luther Vandross.
Elsewhere in the episode, Degeneres gifted the British star, who was last year named People's Sexiest Man Alive, a floral crown and a matching thong - which he gamely sported over his clothes - to wear on his Coachella debut.
The Beasts of No Nation actor also went on to discuss his romantic life, including his proposal to fiancee, former beauty queen, Sabrina Dhowre, which memorably took place at a cinema screening of his directorial debut Yardie.
"It was like two days before Valentine's Day, and I had this ring burning a hole in my pocket... (but) she had to fly somewhere, so I couldn't see her on that day, " he explained.
"When I made the movie, she was on set everyday, so during the private screening, I dropped to one knee. It was very nerve-wracking!"
