Branch libraries will be open an extra 31 hours a week in order to cope with increased demand following the Central Library closure.
Mayor Justin Lester said that in the fortnight after the library closed its doors, branch libraries had more than 9000 extra visits - a jump of 21 per cent..
Four community branch libraries had seen particularly significant increases.
Karori Library saw 3567 more visitors, up 21 per cent, while Wadestown, Brooklyn and Newtown had seen more 20, 18 and 6 per cent more book-lovers through their doors.
"We think we have achieved a good match of customer demand with the right increased hours at the right locations, but this will be closely monitored over the coming weeks," Lester said.
Community facilities portfolio holder councillor Fleur Fitzsimons said other library pop-ups would be opening throughout the year.
The new hours may gradually reduce over time as the CBD library network pop-ups rolled out.
It is anticipated the pop-up service hours would include evenings and weekends.
