Search and rescue teams have spent the night searching for a woman missing at sea off a Northland beach.
A police spokeswoman said the woman had not returned home after going out in a boat near Matauri Bay.
"We have a search and rescue team out there as well as a helicopter, both were searching for the woman until around midnight."
The spokeswoman said the search for the woman was continuing on Wednesday morning.
Matauri Bay, 30km north of Kerikeri, is a popular summer destination for surfers, divers, fishers and holidaymakers.
It is also the final resting place for The Rainbow Warrior, which has now become a living reef.
