The body of a missing Lower Hutt man has been found on a suburban bush track.

Warren Nelson, 71, was last seen at his home on Rata St, Naenae on Thursday.

Police on Tuesday confirmed his body had been located in bush in Naenae. The death has been referred to the coroner.

Nelson was found on the Rata St loop track, a bush walk not far from from where police said he lived.

There had been serious concerns for his safety, and on Monday the area was being searched with a police dog.

There was no information to suggest Nelson was suffered from Alzheimer's or dementia, police said previously.

He had been described as an active man believed to be travelling on foot or public transport.
